OCPA Presents Unique Calypso Programming in Toronto Again for 2016

(Toronto, Canada)

The Organization of Calypso Performing Artists (OCPA) announces its summer lineup of shows for the 2016 season. Perpetuating a tradition dating back to 1920s Trinidad, our city is graced by three calypso tents – Kaiso Forum, Professionals and Tropical Rhythms – each presenting shows on consecutive weekends from June 11 – July 10. As usual, the top competing singers from each of these tents will vie for the Calypso Monarch Finals on July 24, 2016 at 5.00 p.m, at the Latvian Canadian Cultural Centre

(4 Credit Union Drive, East York).

And back again will be our annual Calypso Stars concert at Harbourfront Centre’s Concert Stage, taking place August 1, 3-6 p.m. This concert is the culmination of the Island Soul Festival (July 30-Aug. 1), and features Toronto’s top calypsonians – including reigning monarch Macomere Fifi and MC Dick “D’Juiceman” Lochan – as well as a selection of performers presenting other carnival arts (steelpan, traditional drumming, costumed masquerading).
